HELP REFURBISH THE REX THEATER
Your help is needed and you are encouraged to join members of the community to continue the restoration of one of Galax's most prized possessions, the Rex Theater on Saturday. The Galax Theater Guild and the Galax Downtown Association have pooled their limited resources to pay to refinish the beautiful wood floors in the Rex Theater, with the help of James Fender and friends. The next phase is to install re-conditioned chairs in the theater hall. The more folks who volunteer, the faster the job will be done.
Fellowship with members of the community and the good feeling of helping to build toward Galax's future is certainly reason enough to give at least 2-3 hours of work - not to mention the opportunity to burn off some of those holiday calories!!!
The Rex Theater continues to draw dozens of folks each Friday night for the weekly "Blue Ridge Backroads" shows which features live performances from talented oldtime, bluegrass and gospel performers. 2001 performances will feature productions by the Galax Theater Guild and the North Carolina School of the Arts.
Everyone can benefit from the Rex Theater's success. The theater is unique to the area, and events held there will build upon the continued success of the City of Galax. A core group of committed individuals who have given countless hours of time and hard work have helped to restore the beauty of the historic building through it's newly painted and decorated lobby and bathrooms, a "green" room for visiting performers and the beautiful marquee which beckons visitors to come inside for great entertainment. Fifth grade students from Galax Elementary School set the example of "volunteerism" by hosting a school bake sale where they raised enough money to purchase a hot water heater for the Rex Theater. Our children are paving the way for the theater's future.
